Festivals in Stardew Valley explained

Festivals are special events that run throughout each year in Stardew Valley. Each one allows you to complete an activity that will either net you a good reward or allow you to grow closer to a villager or two.
On the day of a festival all the shops and homes in the valley will be locked, as everyone is attending the festival. The only places that remain open are the Community Center, Sewers and Spa.

You'll be notified when a festival begins.
Time will also stand still when you're attending a festival, allowing you to freely enjoy the event. When you're ready to leave, you'll be returned to your farm at a specific time. This means that you can get all your daily jobs done, attend the festival ten minutes before it ends and still enjoy the event fully.
The only exception to this rule is the Night Market; time will continue to flow during this event and you'll be able to visit shops and homes like normal.
When a festival begins, a small message will appear in the lower-left hand corner to remind you of its location.

One of the main goals in Stardew Valley is to complete the Community Center bundles or, if you’re corporate minded, you can buy a JojaMart Membership. Fishing is a great way to earn money in Stardew Valley, especially if you decide to use crab pots and ponds. Throughout the year you’ll also be able to take in a variety of festivals, including the Egg Festival, Stardew Valley Fair and the Night Market.
